Androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness is a common problem that affects nearly one fourth of the male population in Canada. The cause of the problem is the DHT hormone that is a derivative of testosterone. The DHT or dihydrotestosterone shrinks the hair follicles in the scalp which leads to hair fall. With these significant results, the Health Protection Branch of Health Canada approved propecia (produced by Merck), for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. 

 

Propecia is a drug that is available only with a prescription. Therefore the drug can be purchased over-the-counter by a valid prescription from a physician. However there are various dedicated online pharmacies in Canada, that sell propecia. These pharmacies also require a prescription, but if a patient does not have one, there is the facility of consultation from an online doctor who writes a prescription. This makes procuring propecia easy and quick. Care must be taken while buying propecia online as sometimes generic drugs are passed off as branded propecia, which is higher in price than the generic version. Therefore if buying online, it must always be bought from a reputable and known store.

 

It must be remembered that propecia is for men only and cannot be prescribed to women or children. There are a few side effects pertaining to loss of libido and lower semen volume, but these are confined to just an insignificant percentage of men taking propecia.
